Why another sailing book?

It was never my intention to write a book. When I bought Fluke, I just wanted to go sailing again. I started taking photos first as a personal record, but as the project progressed, I thought that perhaps others had the same idea as I did... that maybe fixing an old, neglected sailboat is a workable way to go sailing. Just what does such a project require? Can I do it?

So the photos grew, first to a website, then to a CD ROM, and finally, a printed book published by International Marine. My first writing was just captions, but I found the more I wrote, the more I had to say.

While the boat I fixed up was a '72 MacGregor 222, I tried to anticipate the most common problems found in older, neglected sailboats and how to go about fixing them. So while this book will be of particular interest to MacGregor owners, the topics should apply to any sailboat... indeed, I'm using the same theories and principles to restore my second trailer-sailer, a 1979 Montgomery 17.
